One of the most popular collector’s coins all over the world is the Chinese Panda Gold Coin which was first released by the Chinese government in 1982. These Panda Gold Coins are legal tender coins which have been issued by the People’s Bank of China. Each of these coins is minted in an uncirculated condition and contain a 1 troy ounce of pure gold. The rarity of the Gold Pandas on account of their small mintage and high purity of 0.9999 gold fineness makes them appeal to both investors and collectors alike. Since their release, these gold coins are highly desired on account of their delightful designs that keep changing each year.

The design on the coin features China’s symbolic animal, the panda. The design of this panda keeps changing every year on all denominations and at one time there were seven different Panda imprints on the seven sizes of this gold coin, second in comparison only to the Australian Nugget which was minted in eight sizes. However, the 5- and 12-oz. sizes have been discontinued over a decade ago. The obverse side of the 2009 Gold Chinese Panda Coin features two small panda cubs sitting on a bamboo, enjoying a meal. However, unlike the obverse, the reverse side which displays the “Temple of Heaven” located in Beijing, remains unchanged every year.

These Chinese Gold Coins have denominations ranging from 1/20 oz. in size which has a face value of 25 Yuan to 1 oz. in size which has a face value of 500 Yuan. Many of the proof Chinese Panda Coins that are minted include the letter ‘P’ imprinted on the coin, although it is not imprinted on all such coins. Each of these Panda coins is adored worldwide for their design as simply holding such a coin in one’s hands is like holding onto a sculpture of one of the world’s most beloved exotic animals.
